Farming TP the smart way

I read alot, you probably read more articles burging just how easy TP farming is; but HOW!!!

Being playing with for like 6 weeks. Now have a L47 main and 2 alt (L20 and L16). I tried to farm and it’s painful. I wasn’t until I start my 3rd character that I “mastered” TP farming. I called my method “Rotation Farming”.

What’s Rotation Farming?

Rotation Farming is basically rotating training grounds to maximize farming gains with minimum effort.

Phase 1

DO NOT SKIP TUTORIAL!!! Those articles that told you so are likely from a loaded L85 that can easily transfer 20g to a L1 character and buy everything from AH; or they had played that character before and know how to play it well. If it is your first time in that class, forget it, stick to tutorial.
Why don’t skip tutorial? Tutorial allows you to familiarize your Class, if you never play before. You will receive at least a new set of armour (from head to toe), weapons, 2 rings, skills and money. You will be at least Level 6 and plenty of rubbish (to sell) by the end of tutorial.

Phase 2

Before I begin, I must insist that you don’t activate your free 24hrs mount till I mention later.
While most articles out there asked you to focus on slayer deeds, I would want you to take a bit of your time to focus on quests first. The reason is simple. It pays to complete quests too and it is easier to level up. It is easier to do all the slayer deeds and exploration deeds when you are “stronger”
The rewards for questing are as follows:

  • Bree-land 10/10/15 TP for 15th/30th/45th quests - Total: 35tp
  • Ered Luin 10/10/15 TP for 10th/20th/30th quests - Total: 35tp
  • The Shire 10/10/15 TP for 15th/40th/75th quests - Total: 35tp

The Shrine is the most difficult to achieve, thus put your focus more on Ered Luin quests first.

The starting NPC of each race are as follows:

  • For Dwarf: Gormr Doursmith @ Thorin's Gate, Ered Luin [15.4S, 102.7W]
  • For Elf: Eilian @ Celondim, Ered Luin [28.6S, 92.0W]
  • For Hobbit: Mundo Sackville-Baggins @ Little Delving, Michel Delving, The Shire [31.8S, 76.8W]
  • For Human: Jon Brackenbrook @ Archet Dale, Combe, Bree-land [25.1S, 48.9W]

No matter where you start, just remember this. Temporary skip any quest that asked you to go to another town or outpost at this moment. By the time you finish, say all related in Celondim, you will be asked to go to Dullond. Instead you move on to next race starting point, say Combe, using Swift Ride (1s) from stable. You only move on to the next town when you complete the cycle (4 races). Make use of the 1s Swift Riding. It helps.

If you can’t see the quests because your level is too high, go to CTRL+O -> UI Setting, tick “Show Trival Quest Icon In Radar”

While in these towns, complete the following deeds as well:

  • Celondim - Wolf Slayer (15tp), Elf-ruins Exploration [3/5]
  • Combe - Brigand-slayer (15tp), Spider-slayer in Archet (15tp)
  • Michel Delving - Wolf-slayer (15tp), Slug-slayer (15tp)
  • Thorin's Gate - Places of the Dwarves [3/5]

Phase 3

By the time you complete 4 newbie towns, you should be Level 10 to 12 and ready to kick some ass. I skip The Shire and still get to Level 12 =)

Now you can start doing quests or deeds outside newbie towns. Complete the following deeds when you are in:
Bree Land
East of Staddle - Neekerbreeker-slayer [optional] (15tp), Sickle-fly Slayer [optional] (15tp), Spider-slayer (15tp)
Ered Luin

  • Dullond - Goblin-slayer (15tp), Elf-ruins Exploration [1/5]
  • Gondamon - Brigand-slayer (15tp), Places of the Dwarves [1/5]
  • Noglond - Places of the Dwarves [1/5] (5tp)
  • Thrasi's Lodge - Hendroval-slayer (15tp), Scouting the Dourhands (5tp) [Easier to complete during “Prologue: Instance: Rescue by Moonlight” quest]

The Shire
All over the place - No Place for Spoiled Pies (5tp), Restoring the Quick Post (5tp)

Phase 4

Do this when you know that you can play MAXIMUM hours on LOTRO.

YES... you are going to activate your 24hrs free mount.

By now you are at least Level 16 and not so far away from “legal” age to ride (Level 20).

Things you MUST do when you get your mount:

  • Activate all stables in Bree-land, Ered Luin and The Shire
  • Activate Forsaken Inn and Trestlebridge stables (Optional)
  • Find last Elf-ruin for Elf-ruins Exploration deed in Ered Luin [17.8S, 90.1W] (5tp)
  • The Farms of the Shire (5tp) and The Sights of the Shire (5tp) deeds
  • The Ruins of Breeland (5tp) [within your means, I skip for later]

This way you will clear all your traveling obstacles when you “lost” your mount later.

Now you can go further for Slayer Deeds:

  • Ered Luin - Spider-slayer (15tp)
  • The Shire - Brigand-slayer  [optional] (15tp), Harvest-fly Slayer (15tp), Spider-slayer (15tp), Shire Brew-master (5tp)

Phase 5

You are at least Level 18 now. You may or may not have your mount.

Finished off the remaining deeds (best with mount) within your means:

  • Bree Land - Barghest-slayer (15tp), Bree-land Woodsman (15tp) [tough], Orc-slayer (15tp), Wight-slayer (15tp)
  • Ered Luin - Rath Teraig Exploration (5tp)
  • The Shire - Goblin-slayer [optional] (15tp)

Conclusion

If you follow what I list, you should bag 310tp and level to 20 easily. That’s on top of other tp rewards like mastering a skill, reputation etc.

Tip for turbo slay farming

Loot and collect all the rubbish. I don’t care if the items are useless to you. Just loot and destroy it yourself later if needed. This helps the mons respawn faster, thus you get to kill faster. Else it will take >3 times longer to respawn. Those that don’t loot are idiot farmers. They don’t know how the ego system works in the server.

Tip for selecting farmers

According to my kin members (some are in LOTRO for 3 years), Captain, Champion, Guardian and Minstrel are excellent tp farmers. I had played Captain and Minstrel and both proven to kill faster than my Lore Master main. Ultimately the choice is yours. Chose the class you like most is always the best choice. Bear in mind that no class, below Level 40, has distinct advantages over others.

Frequent Lame Complaints

C: I don’t have good gear
A: You no need any “good” gear till you are >20. If you are a craftsman, you produced and use your own product. No need to be critical as you will outlive your level in a couple of hours. Keep hides, ores, gems and Mastery Components (all trades) in your Vault. It acts as alternate currency for free to play players. You can barter a nice set of armor in Bree (just look out for region message). In most cases, it is free. You can also use it to exchange your products with others. If you are in a strong kin, you may ask but not so nice as high level dun normally stock ingredients below Expert (L20). Best provide your kin member the necessary material if possible.

C: It is so hard and painful to farm tp
A: Turbine will give newbies Slayer Accelerator, XP Booster etc. If you still unhappy with it, you better sign up as VIP and forget about all these shit. Honestly I dun use any of these accelerator and I’m doing fine. They are sitting in my Vault for future use.

C: I have no money
A: Money is everywhere. Just collect the trash and sell. In my first character (Free to Play then), I earn enough to buy a standard house, 60 slots Vault and 2 mounts by level 21.
